Ablation
Etymology:
L. ablātiō: “a taking away"
Definition:
The surgical removal/taking away of a body part, an organ, or especially a tumor. Ablation is a term used in surgery when removing tissues via cutting, but it also refers to a burning or freezing of tissue that induces scarring, such as in a cardiac ablation (e.g. to treat atrial fibrillation).
