Acapnia

Etymology:

Gr. ákapnos: “without smoke”

Definition:

The state in which the level of carbon dioxide in the blood and tissue is significantly lower than normal. Here, carbon dioxide was recognized as smoke given that it is the major component produced in the combustion (seen as smoke) of carbon-containing fuels. Its opposite, hypercapnia, is excess carbon dioxide in the blood.
