Accoucheur
Etymology:
French word referring to a male obstetrician or male midwife. It literally means "to deliver, to give birth, to go to childbed"
Definition:
While its use originates in designating a male obstetrician or male midwife, its other use lies in the term accoucheur's hand: the position of the hand in a carpopedal spasm due to tetany. This position has the metacarpophalangeal joints flexed with the fingers extended. The connection lies in the imagined shape of an obstetrician's hand when delivering a baby.
