Anastamose

Etymology:

Gr. anastomóō: “furnish with a mouth or outlet”

Definition:

When two vessels form a mouth or outlet with eachother; where two vessels meet (e.g. the marginal artery of Drummond is an arterial anastomosis between the superior and inferior mesenteric arteries).


A surgical technique where anatomical tubes (e.g. vessels, intestines) are attached to each other to form an outlet connection.
