Blastomycosis
Etymology:
Gr. blastós: “a germ, bud, sprout, shoot”+ múkēs: “mushroom or other fungus” + ōsis, “state, abnormal condition, or action”
Definition:
A fungal infection (i.e. abnormal condition) caused by the organism Blastomyces dermatitidis, endemic to parts of North America, whose clinical symptoms resemble those of histoplasmosis.
