Calyx

Etymology:
Definition:

Gr. kálux: “case of a bud, husk”, so named because the renal calyx looks like the calyx (comprised of sepals) of a flower, which is the outermost whorl/layer that encases the petals of a flower (lots of botany here, we know; it's best to look up an image!).

A chamber in the kidney that surrounds or encases the apex of the renal pyramids.
