Diaphysis

Etymology:
Definition:

Gr. diá: “through, across, by, over” + Gr. phúsis: “growth, I bring forth”

The diaphysis is the main or midsection (shaft) of a long bone. It is made up of cortical bone and usually contains bone marrow and adipose tissue (fat). The diaphysis is also the site of the primary ossification center, which is the place through which long bones begin growing in length.
