Definition:
L. duodēnum digitōrum: “space of twelve digits”, so named because the length of duodenum was thought to be approximately the breadth of twelve fingers
The first part of the small intestine—roughly twelve finger-widths in length—starting at the lower end of the stomach and extending to the jejunum.
