Keloid

Etymology:

Gr. khēlḗ: “hoof” + Gr. eîdos (-oid): “form, likeness”

Definition:

Keloids, also known as keloid scars, are firm, rubbery lesions or shiny, fibrous nodules, and can vary from pink to the color of the person's skin or red to dark brown in color. In other words, a keloid is a hard (perhaps hard like an animal hoof), raised growth of scar tissue at the site of an injury; depending on its maturity, they are composed mainly of either type III (early) or type I (late) collagen.
