Etymology:
Gr. mésos: “middle” + Gr. énteron: “gut”
Definition:
The membrane (extending into the middle of the gut) that attaches the intestines to the wall of the abdomen, maintaining their position in the abdominal cavity and supplying them with blood vessels, nerves, and lymphatics.
