Ochronosis
Etymology:
Gr. ōkhrós: “pale yellow, sallow” + Gr. nósos, “sickness, disease, plague”
Definition:
Abnormal brown pigmentation (reflecting the histological finding of yellow-brown deposits in the dermis) of tissue (especially cartilage and ligaments) resulting from the accumulation of a melanin-like pigment derived from homogentisic acid in the metabolic disorder/disease alkaptonuria.
