Porphyria
Etymology:
Gr. haemato: "blood" + porphúra, “purple”
Definition:
Any of several usually hereditary abnormalities of porphyrin metabolism (a primary chemical constituent of hemoglobin found in the blood) characterized by excretion of excess porphyrins in the urine which can change the color of the urine to a purple-red.
