Abbreviation for L. pro: "for" + L. rē: "thing, matter" L. nātā: "born, arisen", collectively, "for what arises" or "as needed"
Definition:
To take action or medications as needed by the patient. Often used on medical charts by doctors to indicate that actions may be taken at the discretion of the staff depending on the patient's condition, and on prescriptions to indicate that the medicines may be taken if and when the patients feel the need.
