Psammoma body

Etymology:

Gr. psámmos: “sand”, so called because they resemble grains of sand under a microscope

Definition:

A round, "sand-like" collection of calcium with onion-like concentric circles seen microscopically; often associated with pathologies such as papillary carcinoma of the thyroid, malignant mesothelioma, meningioma, and serous papillary cystadenocarcinoma of the ovary. 


Don't confuse these with keratin pearls!
