Risus sardonicus
Etymology:
L. risus or rīdeō: “laugh” + Gr. sardánios: “bitter, scornful, grim" (of laughter or smiles)
Definition:
An abnormal sustained spasm of the facial muscles that appears to produce grinning (seen as a malevolent, bitter laugh), characteristic of tetanus and of strychnine poisoning; a rictus grin.
