Temporal bone
Etymology:
Uncertain origin, proposed to be from L. tempus: “time, period, opportunity”, so named because grey hairs due to age were first seen on the side of the skull
Definition:
Either of two compound bones that collectively make up the sides and base of the skull (where, superficial to these bones, grey hairs would first arise providing an indicator as to how much time an elderly person has been alive).
